VioClean’s Story

VioClean began with concern for Lewis, an Olde English Bulldog. Lewis was always getting ear infections and his owner, Trung Nguyen, a tax accountant for public accounting firms in New York and Boston, tried everything his veterinarian advised.
When an infection blew out Lewis’ ear drum and required surgery, Trung started thinking closely about what could be causing the dog’s more than 4-year illness, and directed his attention to the most obvious environment—the floor beneath his feet, right where Lewis lays everyday.
Trung’s carpets have always been cleaned every four months, a practice he started when he began working for a carpet cleaning business while attending Bentley College. Around the same time as Lewis’s surgery, Trung’s children were born premature and are sensitive to odors, scents, and foods.
Conventional carpet cleaners contain various industrial agents, solvents, and fragrance chemicals such as hydrofluoric acid (a rust remover), and tetrachloroethylene (a spot remover), formaldehyde, tributyl tin, butane, isobutane, propane, glycol ethers (like butoxyethanol, a solvent), quaternary ammonium chloride, sodium bisulfate, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, dibutyl phthalate (an environmentally-persistent solvent that damages the reproductive organs of animals when consumed in nature), and more. Many of these substances are linked to cancer, pulmonary edema, anemia, reproductive disorders, and organ and fetus damage in humans and are banned in certain locations as public health hazards while others are prohibited because they are proven environmental pollutants.
Trung searched for a green carpet cleaning company using all natural products—devoid of chemicals that would put his family at risk—but could not find one. So he researched and purchased all-natural, eco-friendly, non-toxic products, and began cleaning his carpets himself.
Since 2005, Lewis’s ear infections have stopped.
Inspired by the quality of the products he has grown to trust, and the care at which he provided his own family, Trung left the accounting world and began upholstery, rug, and carpet cleaning certification, traveling across the country for classes and achieving the exceptional scoring the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) exams require. Thus VioClean was born.
While working through college, Trung was surprised at how easily some companies performed the “bait and switch,” tacking on fees and not providing services advertised—yet remained busy. He learned how dark business could be, and quickly saw that providing clients with exceptional service, as well as using only non-toxic products, is exactly what he would expect for his own family, friends, neighbors, fellow businesses, and neighboring communities.
IICRC
The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is the premier non-profit certification organization that has established and monitored industry standards since 1972. Professionals that meet IICRC’s high standards follow the association’s code of ethics and adhere to insurance, inspection, and cleaning standards from inspection, to remediation and restoration. The IICRC represents more than 4,600 certified firms and 43,000 certified technicians in 30 countries.
Green Seal
VioClean uses products certified by Green Seal, a non-profit organization formed in 1989 to certify products and services based on International Organization for Standardization standards for environmental labeling. Products certified by Green Seal means that manufacturers are credible and transparent about their practices. IAQ Approved
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has evaluated VioClean’s carpet cleaning products as Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Approved based on adherence to all OSHA-regulated air contaminant standards.
CRI Seal of Approval

The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval certifies products and equipment for effective cleaning quality. CRI is a non-profit trade association representing the manufacturers of more than 95 percent of all carpet made in the United States, as well as suppliers and service providers.
