Why Your House May Flood Inside

· December 8, 2015 · 4:08 am

Aside from Mother Nature there are other problems inside your home that may lead to indoor flooding! So here are a few of the most common ones…

1. Full Septic Tanks

Sometimes a septic tank can be full and it will back up the water that you are using anywhere. It can be the kitchen sink, the shower etc. So be sure to check your septic tank. The drain pipe entering the tank can be blocked by something. If that isn’t the case then…

2. Check the drain pipes themselves…

You can try and snake the drain yourself. If you find something stuck inside the drain and find it to be unmovable then you should call the plumber as soon as possible. In the meantime, try to hold in going number 2! In the future be sure to watch and see if little by little the water isn’t draining like it normally does

3. Clogged Rain Gutters

If your rain gutters are clogged, this may back up and get into cracks in your foundation that may lead to the basement. Lots of rain and clogged gutters are not a great combination. So be sure to keep them clean and patch up any cracks in your foundation that is close to your basement.

4. Leaks In A Water Heater

If you have any leaks in your water heater, the damage can leave an impression on your house-and not in a good way. Remember-or for those who don’t know, there is an immense amount of water constantly running through your house. This can lead to serious problems if it is not dealt with immediately.

5. Washing Machines

Did you know that washing machine floods are one of the top filed claims from homeowners?

Your washing machine has an “intake hose” that allows water to enter the washing machine. If this hose has a leak, it may lead to a burst of water, which then “hoses down” the whole house. So how to prevent this? Switch your hoses for braided hoses. Then consider getting a washing machine valve shut off kit. This includes a sensor to be put on the floor which immediately shuts off the valve that extracts the water into the washing machine once it detects a puddle of water!

So be sure to be careful and take care of your home the way you should. Your house will treat you good if you treat it good. If you have any flooding issues it’s important to…

Call a plumber and call a water restoration company immediately
